3D Environment Artist - Avakin life - (June 2016 - present)
I am currently a 3D environment artist on Avakin Life. Each environment takes roughly 3 weeks start to finish including Unity setup and collisions. As well as the scene passing QA checks. Most of these scenes have a triangle count of 15k - 18k and draw calls from 30-50 (including custom paintable surfaces which take up a draw call each). Most textures are at 256x256, but the general rule is as low as i can get away with. There is usually a single 512x512 lightmap for each scene however some of the larger scenes requiring two lightmaps, of several separate smaller maps where it makes sense to split them. I am responsible for Designing, modeling, texturing, lighting and scene setup for most scenes. We also sometimes outsource a high poly model to be reduced as a starting point and i will be required to manage the outsourcer and write documentation to outline my requirements for the space.
